A New Day at Midnight
Some of you may recognize this as the title to both a David Gray album and a song released on a later David Gray album. I've decided to make this the name of this blog for several reasons but the most important one is this, its true. No matter what happens today, bad or good, awful or incredible, sad or happy... at midnight, a new day begins. If today you let someone down, tomorrow you have a chance to come through for someone. If today you're on top of the world, tomorrow you could be the bottom of the barrel.
Which to me means that you should live every day with a deep understanding of this. Every day that is a good day, enjoy it, soak it up, revel in it! Because tomorrow might not be as good. And on the other side, for every day that has you down in the dumps, hating where you are, dreading another day of doing what you are doing... Don't dwell on it, tomorrow is another day and you can make of it whatever you choose to!
For any readers out there who received mail from me or talked to me on the phone over the last few months you know that some days I thoroughly questioned my decision to enlist in the Navy, but that phase has past and I am loving it now, even though I am in essentially the same spot as I was two months ago. Will there be more days where I question this choice? Almost certainly. But even on the worst of those days there is always that promise that a new day will come at midnight, and with it all the possibilities in the world.
This is merely an introductory post, to give you an understanding of where I am, and what I want to do. I feel certain I have achieved neither of these, but maybe I'll get there eventually. My dad and I have often started and carried on conversations in nothing but song titles from artists such as David Gray, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and a few others... and in doing so I have developed an affinity to tie music into many aspects of my life, so for anyone who chooses to continue reading the ramblings, expect many a musical allusion.
I tend to be long winded in some regards, but I will attempt to keep most of these entries rather short in the interest of having a few people actually read them. (Well that is my initial intention.) To end on another David Gray favorite of mine I will refer you to Sail Away. The major line in the song is, "Sail away with me, what will be will be." So I invite you to sail away with me.
